Are contact lenses thinner and more comfortable?

With the continuous innovation and development of materials, the texture of contact lenses is getting thinner and lighter. So, is the lens thinner to be more comfortable?

In fact, contact lenses are not as thin as possible. Too thin lenses are relatively easy to deform and break, and may also cause problems such as corneal epithelial tissue damage or corneal staining. Generally speaking, we judge the quality of contact lenses mainly depends on the material, oxygen permeability and other parameters. Too thin and light lenses are not easy to wear, and it also increases a lot of operational difficulties for first-time wearers. Moreover, if the first-time wearer needs to wear it repeatedly, it will also increase the probability of breakage.

For contact lenses, the difference in thickness is basically 0.01MM, and the difference may not be very obvious, so the oxygen permeability of the lens is more closely related to water and its own material. Thus, a lens with a smaller central thickness cannot simply be considered more comfortable and oxygen permeable. In addition, thinner contact lenses may also have relatively poor water retention, which can lead to faster water evaporation and dry eyes.

At the same time, since contact lenses require daily care and cleaning, if the lenses are too thin, the lenses may be broken or damaged accidentally when rubbing and cleaning. Therefore, we must not blindly believe the propaganda of "ultra-thin" and "ultra-ultra-thin" by merchants.

At present, contact lenses can already achieve a very thin and light effect, wearing them as if nothing, and the ultra-high water content can also avoid the appearance of foreign body sensation. Therefore, the thinner the contact lens is, the more comfortable it is. If you want to wear it comfortably, you need to improve the fit of the lens.
